Participant Safety and Competition Integrity at the Center of IFA7’s Decision
CALGARY / INDONESIA — September 2026 — The International Football Association (IFA7), in coordination with its organizing counterparts and relevant authorities in Indonesia, has officially announced new dates for the IFA7 NATIONS CUP™ Indonesia 2027.
The international Football 7 competition will now take place from:

The decision follows recent volcanic activity and seismic events affecting parts of Indonesia and has been made with one priority above all others:
the safety, security and well-being of every athlete, coach, official, delegation member, partner and supporter participating in the competition.
Indonesia remains fully committed to hosting the IFA7 NATIONS CUP™, and preparations for the competition continue under the revised international calendar.
Safety Comes Before the Schedule
International sporting events require much more than matches on a field.
National teams travel thousands of kilometers. Flights are purchased months in advance. Hotels, transportation, broadcast operations, venues, officials, commercial partners and international delegations must all work within one coordinated operational plan.
Following the recent geological activity in Indonesia, IFA7 and its counterparts in the country reviewed the situation from the perspective of international travel, event logistics, operational certainty and participant welfare.
Indonesia’s geological authorities confirmed that Anak Krakatau experienced an extended eruption episode from September 4 through September 6, followed by continuing volcanic activity and monitoring. At the same time, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has continued reporting seismic activity across different regions of the country, including several earthquakes above magnitude 5 during September. BMKG
While these developments do not mean that Indonesia cannot safely host an international competition, IFA7 believes major international sporting events must be organized proactively rather than reactively.
Waiting until teams had already committed significant resources to international travel would not have reflected the standard of responsibility IFA7 expects from itself as an international sporting organization.
Therefore, the decision was made to provide additional preparation time and greater certainty for everyone involved.

Every decision surrounding the IFA7 NATIONS CUP™ ultimately begins with the people who make the competition possible.
The players.
The coaches.
The referees.
The medical teams.
The officials.
The international delegations.
The families and supporters who travel around the world to be part of the experience.
Moving the competition to January 24–31, 2027 provides additional time for participating national teams to reorganize international travel arrangements, finalize preparations and arrive in Indonesia with greater confidence.
For IFA7, safeguarding participants is not simply an operational requirement.
It is part of our responsibility as an international sports organization.

The change of dates does not change the vision for the competition.
Quite the opposite.
The additional preparation period will allow IFA7 and the Indonesian organizing team to continue developing an international event designed to showcase Football 7 at the highest level.

Major events are defined not only by what happens when the first whistle blows.
They are also defined by the decisions made before athletes ever enter the stadium.
IFA7 believes responsible event management means being prepared to make difficult decisions when circumstances require them.
Changing an international competition calendar has operational and financial consequences. However, those considerations cannot take precedence over reasonable precautions involving participant welfare and the integrity of the competition.
The additional preparation period will allow organizers to continue monitoring conditions, coordinating with local partners and authorities, and completing the international operational structure required for the tournament.
